Welcome Home, Baby
So you have your new baby home - this little innocent, helpless bundle who will now rely on you to care for all its needs.
We want to make sure that the transition from our home to yours will be a smooth and enjoyable one. Here are some of the things you should know about what your kitten is already accustomed to and how you can continue to give him or her the quality care that Chateau Amor has provided since birth.
And remember, we are only a phone call away. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.
Naming Your Baby
Chateau Amor may give its babies temporary names or nicknames, but we also call them "Baby" until they leave us. This way when they go home with you and are given their forever name they will adjust easily. The age of the kittens should allow them to become used to their new names quite easily. So please name your baby that name you have so carefully chosen just for him or her! We will not be offended - we expect it.
Sending Registration to the Cat Fancier's Association
More than likely you will be given a blue litter registration form on which we have identified the sex and color of the kitten, with no kitten name yet registered. Please let us know of any errors so we can reissue a new form to you. Then follow the instructions on the form and submit it to the Cat Fancier's Association (CFA) with the proper fee. You will received the kitten's CFA actual registration within a few weeks.
Good Veterinary Care is Essential
Shot records for your new baby will be provided at the time of adoption. You should make an appointment right away with your veterinarian if you want the kitten's initial health verified for our 15-day initial health guarantee, to discuss when any remaining shot(s) will be given, if needed, and to discuss when the kitten will be spayed or neutered in accordance with our adoption contract.
Feeding the Baby
We have recently partnered with Purina and are currently feeding all our babies either Purina Kitten or Cat Chow. In the past, we have recommended other foods, but as concerns developed from possible food complications, we made changes to our feeding regime. Purina is a long standing company with a good reputation. Their food is widely available, so no matter where you shop, you have a good chance of finding it with ease.
There is such a wide array of food brands on the market with varying advertised quality and price factors to consider. You are certainly welcome to do your own research to find the food you are most comfortable feeding your baby.
If you do change your kitten's food, please do so carefully and with caution. Their young and sensitive digestive systems will need time to adjust to any change in diet.
Toys - Lots of Toys!
Chateau Amor kittens have had lots of toys to play with during their stay with us. You might say they are quite spoiled in this respect. Nothing is cuter or more satisfying than seeing a happy, healthy baby kitten (and bigger ones, too) play with their toys. Please provide your baby with plenty of simple toys to assure its continued happiness and spoil away! Oh, and don't forget the wonderment and entertainment that even a simple cardboard box can provide.
We don't recommend toys with feather-type attachments because of choking hazards they can pose. Please never leave a hand held toy with string or plastic line accessible to kittens, unless you are playing with them. The line can be accidentally tangled around their neck posing a significant and life-threatening risk during unmonitored play.
Grooming - or as we like to say, "Daily Spa Treatments"
Daily lifetime grooming will be required to keep your kitten's beautiful coat healthy and free of tangles. Persians need daily combing or brushing and regular bathing. If you fail to provide this necessary care, the Persian's coat could mat and tangle and professional help may be required.
They are not a low maintenance pet in this respect, so please make sure you are committed to providing the grooming needs of the Persian before you adopt.
You should clean your baby's eyes daily because the form of their face can often cause drainage which can cause uncomfortable build up in and around the eye. Persians can be susceptible to eye infection and from time to time you might need to treat the eyes with an antibiotic, which you can obtain through prescription from your veterinarian.
Nail Trimming - Please Do Not Declaw Your Baby!
Please remember, Chateau Amor does not condone declawing of our Persian kittens, and this is an important part of the contract you will sign when you adopt from us.
Regular nail trimmings can accomplish similar results without the serious emotional and physical harm that declawing does.
The Cat Fancier's Association does not recommend declawing, and we are in full agreement with their stance. It is a cruel and mutilating procedure and likely to affect the personality of the kitten.
Health Guarantee
In addition to the 15-Day initial health guarantee, you will also have a 1-year genetic replacement health guarantee. Please thoroughly review the contract for further details.
